Helping riders achieve the optimum for themselves and their horses.

Jon has been eventing Internationally for many years, including riding at Badminton and Burghley, and has worked extensively with some of the world’s leading trainers (including 5 years spent with Capt Mark Phillips, now trainer to the US team, and with Ferdi Eilberg, Olympic rider and trainer, and director of coaching for dressage in the UK).  However, much of his work is with every-day riders and he has vast experience of working with “problem” and young horses.

Whether you’re a weekend rider preparing to ride your first dressage test or have ambitions to ride at Badminton, Jon works with the natural instincts of the horse, resolving riding issues through persuasion and co-operation.  Improvement in the physical performance is then simply a natural follow-on.

He is well known for his ability to help riders develop greater self belief in their riding, closer communication and deeper understanding with their horses – a common language.  His empathic style focuses on the psychology of the horse and its individuality, removing many of the obstacles to harmonious progress and mutual enjoyment (there are a few actual quotes from clients further down this page).

A former Lloyds Bank Young Instructor of the Year, a BHSI (British Horse Society Instructor) and with an Honours Degree in Equine Sports Science, Jon is also highly qualified.  Clients can have a written assessment with a plan for future training and development for them and their horse.

“Jon’s lessons are a breath of fresh air – he looks at issues between horse and rider in a very logical way, his gentle and thoughtful approach has really improved how I communicate with my horse.  It’s had a significant effect on my competition results too”
Claire Foster, Hampshire

“The thing that sets Jon apart from other trainers I’ve used is that he takes time to establish clear understanding in the mind of both of us.  Thanks to Jon my horse actually has a top-line now and is a pleasure to ride – it’s great!
Carolyn Fish, Oxfordshire

"Thanks so much Jon. You’ve given me an incentive to get going again instead of just bumbling along.”
Wendy Needler, Wiltshire

“A unique and personal approach without deviating from the basic principles of classical training. Jon goes to great lengths to demonstrate and explain, ensuring all is clearly understood by both the rider and the horse”
Liz Willis, Oxfordshire

“I remember watching you teach clinics and seeing how open-minded you were, how differently you treated each horse/rider combination.  It was a huge lesson for me in my own teaching thereafter”
Pam Asheton, Canada
